Going Forward

Which Way the Future: Update from the Going Forward Committee - November 2017
It has been a year since the Going Forward Committee held a workshop here at the library to consult with the congregation on how to move forward. The congregation said that ideally it would be good to have all our ministries, worship, administrative and food ministry in one location.
The Going Forward Committee has looked at many spaces on the Lakeshore. We have explored the possibility of using storefronts, houses and other buildings such as the old Mimico train station at Judson and Royal York. In some cases these were ruled out due to the cost factor, in other cases, such as the train station, the buildings are simply not available for use at this time.
Currently, we are exploring the use of the Presbyterian church and Connaught Hall, the Masonic building on Superior Ave. One of the ways we can use our capital is to make capital improvements on a building. One of the options we can explore with the above two groups is that of not simply renting but of offering our financial support for building improvements and upkeep which would benefit both us and them. This would mean we would not be simply renters but would have a stake in the building.
A second focus of the Committee has been on finding out about who now lives on the Lakeshore and what their needs might be. We commissioned an environics study from Edge, a division of the United Church which gave us data on the current population of the Lakeshore. We have also met with representatives from LAMP to find out their understanding of the needs of the Lakeshore and hope to meet with Stonegate ministry who operate a ‘new to you store’ across from Martin Luther Church.
The library has served us well as an interim home but we are aware that in order to move on as a congregation we need to find a place that will allow us to accommodate children and also give us space to store necessary items for Sunday so that we are not constantly moving things every Sunday.
The members of the Committee, Rev. Joan Smith, Marelba Fushekati, Patricia McPhail, Andrew Norwood, Glenys Huws and Charlotte Sharkey are happy to speak with you and answer any questions you might have.
